Chai Tea Latte

(Makes 2 medium bowls)

  • 2 medium espresso bowls
  • 2 masala chai tea bags
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cup organic milk
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • Ground cinnamon, to taste

With winter weather setting in, we think a Chai Tea Latte is a recipe go-to for the season! Warm, complex and aromatic, this traditional Indian tea is delicious and comforting at any time of the day. Masala Chai, or "mixed spiced tea," is a black Assam tea paired with spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed, ginger and black pepper.

  1. In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. When the water is boiling, turn off the heat and add the tea bags. Allow tea to steep covered for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove tea bags, squeezing them gently over the pan to release any remaining tea.
  3. Add the milk and maple syrup to the saucepan and mix. Bring to a simmer to warm the entire mixture, if needed.
  4. Remove from heat and divide between two bowls. Alternative method: if you have a milk steamer, add maple syrup directly to the tea and steam the milk separately. Divide the tea mixture between bowls and top with steamed milk.
  5. Garnish with a sprinkling ground cinnamon.
